Olkhon Island

Day 4 of our journey across Lake Baikal brought us to the stunningly beautiful Olkhon Island. It is the 3rd largest lake island in the world with an area of 730 km2. The population of the island is less than 1,500 and consists mostly of Buryats, the island’s aboriginal people. The Buryats, adherent of shamanism, believe the island to be a spiritual place. The Shamanka rock is one of the most sacred places in Asia.
