Lake Baikal with its stunning scenery and mystical solitude is also home to the – originally Mongolian – Buryats. To this day Shamanism and its focus on the worship of nature plays a huge role here. Olkhon Island is an important sacred place and we stop here for an offering ritual. We have to appease the spirits for protection and a safe journey across the lake.
