Team Baikal Prepares for Siberian Conditions in Rovaniemi – The Official Hometown of Santa Claus

We’re in Finland, North of the Arctic Circle for the final testing of motorcycles with Mitas studded tyres, the UAZ Vehicle, Bereg Tents and all other equipment at The Baikal Project shakedown from December 13 – December 16. We take a dip in a freezing cold lake. Also, a few last minute preparations have to be made: Fitting of Rukka Motorsport clothing, TCX Boots and our special edition Vostok Watches … and of course an important meeting and photo shoot with the Man Himself! This is our trip to Rovaniemi, Lapland

Rovaniemi is a true winter wonderland and the perfect destination for our team shakedown. The Baikal Project team has chosen the frozen Lake Norvajärvi just inside the Arctic Circle in Northern Finland to simulate conditions at Lake Baikal in Siberia.
Lake Norvajärvi, just 5km in length compared to Lake Baikal at over 700 km makes an excellent location for the Baikal Project to put the motorbikes through their paces. The team uses the shakedown weekend to familiarise themselves with riding on ice with the newly fitted Mitas studded ice tyres.

The Baikal Project Riders also get a final fitting for the Rukka motorcycle gear they will be wearing on the adventure in February.
Team Baikal and the film crew even camp out on ice and test our Bereg Tents to prepare for icy conditions in Siberia in February 2020. Endurance is key to this adventure so withstanding a dip in the freezing cold lake is an introduction to what awaits in Siberia. This is also a great opportunity to test our fabulous Vostok Europe extreme watches.

Gary O’Keeffe has brought with him a huge sack of  Santa Letters collected from children in Scoil Mhuire and the South National School in his hometown of Abbeyleix, Co Laois in the Irish Midlands. These letters are delivered to the Man Himself on Sunday!

The trip is also invaluable to the film crew as it gives a real taste of the conditions that lie ahead for the actual adventure and filming at Lake Baikal.

Rovaniemi is located North of the Arctic Circle in Finland and , 2019. The location is ideal for the team and their equipment to simulate Siberian conditions.
